Hi Gary here,

Just a reminder to you good people - please go to Albums (click top or bottom), then click on the link at the bottom ('click here for music with slide show'). You'll be reminded how courageous and determined you Amputees are. Great song too, don't forget to turn your speakers up. :o)

Please also read Aidan's golf story. Aidan started First Swing Golf Clinics at the age of 12 and is now 15.

Enjoy,

Gary

Golf – Adelaide Shores Golf Park

On 10th March 2010 the Community Re-entry Program took part in a First Swing Golf Clinic at the Adelaide Shores Golf Park. Coaching of the sport was given by the fantastic golfing coaches Nathan and Gary who helped demonstrate and teach the skills that are required in the game of golf. As a student I was able to participate and assist individuals with brain injuries learn and master the sport of golf in a group-style atmosphere. Through the coaching, valuable insight was gained about the complex techniques that can be adapted and manipulated into simple skills so that all individuals can participate. The session also highlighted how individuals with brain injuries can be motivated to complete a skill or task by having a positive, supportive and motivating environment. In conclusion, the golf clinic was a positive and wonderful experience for all participants involved, and a valuable insight into how individuals with brain injuries can take part in golf.

The Flinders Hackers enjoyed another great day of golf coaching yesterday. This was our second coaching session and once again, the humour of Gary Hart and the wonderful skills of Nathan Kent put the members at ease. Many showed greatly improved skills since their first session and appeared to be really getting into the whole thing. It would be great to see our members take up the sport as many of them show some great abilities. We will definitely go again!!!

10th March 2010

Hi Gary here,

Again I'm left in astonishment - we had our First Swing Golf Clinic today for the Flinders Hackers, CRP Members of the Flinders re-entry program.

Out in great numbers again (17 in total), all enthusiastic and willing to 'Give it a Go'.

Nathan and I started off with simple exercise slowly building up to the First Swing; it didn't take long for everyone to get back into it and show great improvement.

We had fun undercover at the Shores Academy before venturing out onto the driving range where all participants could show off their skills. Some great shots were had by all, and may I say everyone was very supportive of each other. It was then onto the putting green for some friendly competition, a lot of detenrmination, and concentration; this resulted in some fine putting.

All in all, after two hours of great camaraderie and gentle competition, everyone was looking forward to a sit-down & a hot drink, and a natter in regards to the afternoon's activities.

It's fair to say the Flinders Hackers went away with smiles on their dials; well done.

Please click here to view the photos. Well done on a great effort; until next time.

Swing easy and enjoy.

Just a reminder to SAAGA Members that there is a First Swing Golf Clinic this Saturday (13st March); if you're not booked in yet then please do so before Thursday evening. There is also a Golf Day next Sunday (21st March); the numbers have been great so far and I thank you for your continued support.

In closing I would like to remind any SAAGA members that are attending the up-and-coming Queensland & Australian Amputee Golf Opens that you are already winners, so just go out and enjoy yourselves.

Enjoy,

Gary

WAADGA First Swing Golf Clinic – Sunday 7th March 2010

The second First Swing Golf Clinic held at the Vines Golf and Country Club in Perth was another great day for all participants, their families and friends, of which their was a large contingent.

The most satisfying aspect of the day for me was the number of juniors that attended. We have some very exciting prospects amongst these kids, especially Ryan Morich (right BK) who is 16 years old. This youngster has some serious talent and WAADGA will support him all the way to realise his dream of playing for Australia in the 2016 Paralympic Games. We presented Ryan with a new set of golf clubs to give him a heads up.

Mark Tibbles, resident golf professional at the Vines, and his wife Pen (WAADGA secretary) did a sterling job as usual. These two are a pleasure to work with and their support for amputee and disabled golf is unparalleled. Paul Morgan, the golf professional who will run the rural clinics from Bunbury Golf Club, also attended the day and his participation was greatly appreciated. This big man said to me that he was humbled by the guts and determination that he witnessed at the clinic.

All in all a great day was had by all. We also held our first Board of Management meeting after the clinic. There is an air of great excitement and expectation amongst this group and I believe with people of this calibre working toward a common goal, WAADGA can become nothing but a great success. Gary Hart you have unleashed a monster, mate!!

The WAADGA executive is:

Henri Liebenberg President
Gordon Watters Vice President
Frank Gaudin Captain
Pen Tibbles Secretary and acting Treasurer

Gary Hart Founder Advisor

Stay well,
