Barry Williamson

I have been an amputee since April 25th 1945. I jumped off a moving tram while selling newspapers in South Caulfield. My father was driving the next tram to arrive.

The Herald and Weekly Times Ltd subsequently paid for the last 5 years of my schooling 1948/1952 at Caulfield Grammar School.

I joined the Herald and Weekly Times as proof reader in 1952 and later transferred to the accounting dept. I eventually rose to the position of Assistant Accountant at the Sun News pictorial.

During this time I attended night school at Melbourne Tech, where I completed the Diploma of Accounting, and was able to join what is now C.P.A. Australia, the world's 6th largest Accounting body.

During these years my sporting activities consisted of cricket, tennis and snow skiing [badly] and the odd game of golf.

In 1963 I went to Canada where I met and married Liz. We came back to Australia in 1964 and eventually retired in 1996. We have one daughter and 4 grandkids.

Over the years most of the sports I had played were dropped in favour of golf and I joined Rossdale Club in Melbourne.

In 1996 we moved to the Gold Coast and I joined Coolangatta Tweed Heads, then in 2006 Tally Valley.

I played in the three amputee championships at Coolangatta, all the Queensland tournaments and one at Port Stephens. I also played in two New Zealand Tournaments at Waihiki in New Zealand, winning the multi division the first year.
